If you caught our last post discussing the benefits of bananas for dogs, you might remember a mention of a particular homemade treat our dogs love – Banana Bread Dog Treats.
Our dogs, Buddha, our trusty 15-year-old bulldog, and Vivian, our spirited 2-year-old Australian Shepherd, can’t get enough of these treats. So today, we thought we’d share our recipe with you. Whether you’re an experienced cook or a beginner in the kitchen, this recipe is an easy way to add some nutritious variety to your pet’s diet.
Let’s get cooking!
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 cup of oats
- 2 cups of whole wheat flour
- 1/3 cup of natural peanut butter (Make sure it’s xylitol-free!)
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup of water
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mash the bananas in a large bowl. Then, add the oats, whole wheat flour, peanut butter, and eggs. Mix until the dough begins to form.
- Gradually add water, and knead the dough until it’s non-sticky and easy to roll.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut it into shapes using a cookie cutter. If you don’t have a doggie-themed cutter, any shape will do.
- Arrange the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until they’re golden brown and crisp.
- Allow the treats to cool down completely before serving.
And there you have it – a simple and nutritious homemade dog treat for your furry friend!
Remember, these treats should be served in moderation as part of a balanced diet. Enjoy seeing those tails wag and send us your pictures of your favorite treats!
Note: Always consult with your vet before introducing a new food item into your pet’s diet, especially if they have any dietary restrictions or allergies.
Happy baking, folks! 🐾
